On Sunday, we co-organized a 15-mile march to the Gaza border led by mothers of IDF soldiers with the aim of raising awareness about the need to ease the strict and often debilitating open-fire regulations that prevent soldiers from adequately defending themselves against terrorists.
The march was organized in the wake of the murder of IDF soldier Barel Shmueli, who was shot at point-blank range by a terrorist who rushed the Gaza border. Two soldiers who served in Barel’s unit testified that the soldiers were not permitted to shoot without first receiving explicit authorization, even if they faced immediate danger.
The march concluded with a demonstration that was attended by Barel Shmueli’s mother, Nitza. The videos we uploaded from the march were viewed more than 90,000 times. (Video 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
