On Sunday, BIG chain stores threatened to close down all of the branches of the BIG chain stores in protest of the advancement of legislation which would eliminate the court’s ability to interfere in government decisions. The CEO of BIG has announced that the stores will be opening on Tuesday, due in part to Im Tirtzu protests.
The CEO of BIG Company, Chai Galis, folded after the Im Tirtzu activists arrived at seven in the morning to Tel Aviv in front of his house in protest of the shutdown of the shopping centers.
Matan Peleg, chairman of the Im Tirtzu movement, in response to a report that the chain of stores will not force branches to close if they want to stay open: “First of all, we thank all the citizens of Israel and the elected officials who joined our just protest against the directors of the BIG group. This event where capitalists use their power to punish the majority of the people, if only because they do not share the same political views, is a despicable thing. The people of Israel will not accept this in their Jewish and democratic state. There will be no second-class citizens here. Those who try to harm the citizens of Israel will pay a heavy public and economic price for it. You can ask Angel [Bakery] and Fox – the hand is still extended.”
